Half Day: at least 4 hours
This four hour trip departing in the morning is a good one for first-time anglers or people traveling on vacation, a business trip or just passing through the area.
Three Quarters Day: at least 6 hours
This trip is popular with people who have not fished often enough to withstand a full day, but want more than a half day. It's a long enough day, departing in the morning, to give you enough time to adjust your fishing style.
Full Day: at least 8 hours
The full day trip is clearly the favorite for most people. It's straight through, 8 hours of fishing. Make sure to bring lunch or a snack for the energy to keep plugging away.
Fort Lauderdale Fishing Locations
The Fort Lauderdale area is known for its beaches and saltwater fishing, but it's also home to many great freshwater fishing options.
The most popular local location is the Florida Everglades, rated #1 in Florida for fish caught per hour. Besides great fishing action, the Everglades allows you to experience a huge bird population and alligators freely swimming while you're fishing for Florida largemouth bass.
A second option for the extreme angler is the non-native Asian Snakehead - a hard-fighting, top water-hitting Asian brute located in the city limits of Fort Lauderdale, just 20 minutes west of the beach.
Your guides know where the best fishing is every day and they will take you to where the fish are biting on the date of your fishing trip.
Your Guides & The Equipment
Most boats are less than a 3 years old, with all safety equipment on board, and all fishing equipment is the very best, like G-Loomis, Colmic rods and Shimano, Revo reels. The equipment will be dependable and reliable on your day of fishing.
IMPORTANT - FISHING LICENSE REQUIRED
If you are between the ages of 16 and 65, the State of Florida requires that you have a freshwater fishing license. Children under 16 and Seniors over 65 are not required to have one.
In Florida, licenses can be purchased at Bass Pro Shops, Wal-Mart or many local tackle shops. You also may order a license on the internet - just search "Florida fishing license."
A 3-day non-resident Fishing License is currently $17.00. If you might want to do fishing for longer than a few days, one valid for the entire year is currently $34.00. For Florida residents, an annual fishing license is required at a cost of $17.00 currently.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What should we bring/wear?
Bring any medications, polarized fishing glasses are preferred, but sunglasses are fine. Other suggestions include a hat, both a long and short sleeve shirt and rain gear if you prefer. Deck shoes, tennis shoes or sandals are the most comfortable footwear. Sunscreen in most cases is also needed, because of sensitive skins we suggest you bring your own. You will need to bring along your fishing license. Bring your favorite drink and a snack. Yes, what's a fishing trip without a cold beer! It is permitted. All boats have built-in coolers filled with ice. Sorry, you are not allowed to bring your own cooler aboard the boat.
How many people can there be on this fishing trip?
The preferred and most comfortable is 1 or 2 persons, although 3 people per boat are often taken. The limits are set by the US Coast Guard.
Can I bring my kids?
Absolutely, freshwater fishing is perfect for kids. The action is consistent, the fish are plentiful. There are alligators, birds, snakes, and other native species that hang around the boats to keep them interested. Restroom facilities are usually close by most fishing areas. We have no problem taking restroom breaks when needed. We enjoy working with children and instructing them on various fishing techniques, so all family members are welcome. Children of all ages are welcome with a maximum of three children per boat.
Do I need any fishing experience?
No, your guides have all the experience that is needed. They love teaching others about the sport and coaching you through it all. People may have never fished a day in their lives, but leave with a new understanding and an unforgettable experience.
What about the weather?
In the summer it is hot and it can rain almost any day, but mostly in the afternoon. Be prepared. Put sunscreen on first thing in the morning and bring rain gear if you have it. If not, the guides usually do. Watch the weather and be assured it is cooler on the water than land.
Is it rough out there? Will I get sea sick?
No, you will never have to worry about sea sickness on this trip.
Does the guide fish?
No, unless you specifically request it. Their job is to put you on the fish and give you the information you need to hook, fight and land your trophy fish. They've have done these thousands of times and know were the fish are, so there's no need for them to "test fish to locate them" on YOUR time!
